LongLeanGarden is born!

April 8, 2011 1 Comment by longleanmama

Just this morning with a little potting soil, paper planters and several different seeds, LongLeanGarden was born!  LLG will be living inside the house until the weather warms up a bit, which is recommended when the overnight temp is averaging over 50 degrees. I have been dreaming of having my own garden FOREVER.  My very own organic garden filled with all of my favorite fresh vegetables and NOT filled with any toxic pesticides.  As many may already know, having your own garden offers many benefits…to name a few:

The fresh factor. The veggies are able to grow until they’re ripe and can be eaten the same day!  Can’t get any fresher than that, which in turn ensures the greatest nutrition.  When you buy from the store the produce sometimes travels from far distances thus reducing its nutritional value.

Save some green. You can save so much money, especially if you prefer to buy organic.

Ahhhh organic. Growing vegetables organically means not using non-organic compost, fertilizer or pesticides.

Setting a healthy example. What a healthy, educational and fun experience growing a garden offers our children.  LLB can watch vegetables grow from a seed to food on her plate.  She can be an active participant too…an activity that far exceeds some of the silly toys and tv shows that barely keep her entertained.

We are starting with large tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce mix, arugula, basil and green onions.  A delicious salad is in my future…YUMMMM!  My hubby has been growing gardens all of his life, so together with our little girl we will build our little slice of fresh, organic heaven.  A healthy family adventure!
