I’m sick of morning sickness

My all-times-of-the-day-sickness is driving me crazy! At almost 10 weeks pregnant, I am hoping and praying that this bout of nausea ends with my first trimester. I have heard it can last the entire pregnancy, which is unacceptable! There are a ton of suggestions out there on how to help morning sickness. I would say that ginger tea, ginger ale, ginger everything has helped a little some days, but not all of the time. Peppermint is another and I will say the Mint Chip ice cream is quite satisfying, but definitely not helping me stay in my non-maternity clothes.
I’ve been told to mix it up a little and try different remedies as doing the same thing all the time might backfire. My concern is that I am getting all of these crazy food cravings that I think will help but then after eating I feel the same or worse. What I would like to do is find some morning sickness remedies that are healthy and that help my nausea. I read in a article on About.com that said eating smaller more frequent meals, ginger, acupressure, acupuncture and peppermint are known to be successful homeopathic remedies. I also spoke with a local mom and chiropractor from Rhinebeck Chiropractic, who added that an adjustment could help with morning sickness. Healthy smoothies have also come to mind. I did a little research and found a few recipes that look really yummy.
Morning Sickness Smoothie (from Cherie Calbom’s Ultimate Smootie Book) The gingerroot in the ingredients is supposed to help relieve nausea and vomiting whereas the mint aids in digestion.
- 1 1/2 cups apple juice
- 1/2 lemon, juiced, peeled if using a juice machine
- 1 to 2 inch chunk gingerroot, juiced or grated
- 8 fresh mint leaves, rinsed
- 6 ice cubes
Morning Sickness Smoothie Recipe (from The Doctors TV show)
- ½ cup low fat plain yogurt
- ½ cup pear nectar or 1 cup diced pears
- ½ cup peach nectar or 1 peach sliced
- 1 banana
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- ½ to 1 teaspoon fresh ginger (to taste)
Basic Smoothie Recipe (from www.IndieBirth.com)
- Spinach or other greens (chard, kale, lettuce, dandelion, etc.)
- 2-3 Bananas
- Water
- Fruit of choice (mix and match!) Some Good Fruit Combinations: Strawberry & Kiwi, Orange & Pineapple, Apple & Pear, Nectarine/Peach & Plum
- To Add More Calcium: Add in some almond milk
- For Severe Nausea: Add in some ginger
- To Add More Protein: Add in some hemp or flax powder
I am intrigued and inspired to try these healthy morning sickness remedies. Wow, I actually have some newfound energy! I will be sure to report back with results. In the meantime, please share what worked for you:-)

chewing cinnamon or mint gum and fresh air …. I think I laid on the cold bathroom tile floor with the window open for weeks straight during my first tri-mester (Sept-Oct-Nov … chilly!) … and for some reason having me head down (think yoga/forward fold or down dog) helped too … sorry you’re having such a go of it
Here’s hoping it passes as soon as you cross that 12 week mark!

Thanks for the tips and encouragement! I am planning to start regular prenatal yoga soon. Maybe I should start now! xo

So sorry!
Out of 3 pregnancies, 2 had brutal morning sickness that actually lasted 24 hours a day, for all 9 months. Good times. Only with my middle son did it lift at that magic 2nd trimester mark.
Honestly, I think I tried everything, including those Sea Bands for acupressure that you can find. In the end I just really tried to avoid the trigger smells that made things exponentially worse, and kind of threw my hands up and resigned myself to the whole thing.
I really hope you find something that works for you – I remember saying I wouldn’t wish morning sickness on my worst enemy!
Hang in there.

Wow Brannon, that must have been rough! I am definitely going to try the acupressure bands, I’ve read that a few places. I agree, I sooooo wouldn’t wish this on anyone.

Hi Jill,
Pre-natal vitimins triggered my morning sickness. My midwife suggested that I stop taking them and my morning sickness went away (and I was a healthy eater and my daughter is extremely healthy).
Good luck to you,
Jenn
